And The Winner Is … A Betting Guide To Academy Awards Odds

Yeti Vedder has his finest tuxedo ready to rock and is very excited for this weekend’s Academy Awards and talking about some Academy Awards odds. There is nothing better than getting a group of friends together to watch all the pretty people in their pretty outfits schmooze and tell each other how great they are.

Who am I trying to kid? It kinda makes me sick.

BUT I do love to gamble! Yeti Vedder has set the odds and has his picks for you. Trust me when I say that I pick nothing but winners! I did add some side bets for you to have with your friends. Enjoy!

2013 Academy Awards Odds

Best Supporting Actress Winner

Anne Hathaway – Les Miserables 1/50
Sally Field – Lincoln 14/1
Helen Hunt – The Sessions 25/1
Amy Adams – The Master 25/1
Jacki Weaver – Silver Linings Playbook 50/1

Yeti’s Pick: Anne Hathaway. Any girls that shaves her head, loses weight, AND sings a song gets my vote. Hathaway wrapped this up as soon as that Gillette razor touched the side of her head!

Upset Pick: Sally Field. She was Gidget, The Flying Nun, and Mrs. Gump! We like her, we really, really like her! But still not as much as Anne Hathaway.

Best Supporting Actor Winner

Tommy Lee Jones – Lincoln 5/4
Christoph Waltz – Django Unchained 5/4
Robert DeNiro – Silver Linings Playbook 13/2
Phillip Seymour Hoffman – The Master 15/2
Alan Arkin – Argo 40/1

Yeti’s Pick: Christoph Waltz. This is a category that could be won by anyone! I like Waltz. Even though the Academy is usually not very kind to Quentin Tarantino films, They gave it to Waltz for “Inglourious Basterds” and I think he’ll win again.

Upset Pick: Robert DeNiro. “You talking to me?” Wouldn’t it be great to see DeNiro win again? It has been a while, but that is because he was making focking terrible movies! See what I did there?

YETI BET: Over/Under How many times will Seth MacFarlane say Giggity? 1.5 times

This is a bet that I made up. As we all know, “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane is hosting this year’s Oscars. I’m interested to see how he does. I do know that he will do cartoon voices at least a few times, if just to fall back on something for a laugh! Quagmire is the best character on the show by far and with every famous actress having their breasts hanging out, you know the word giggity is in play!

Yeti’s Pick: Over. I say he will at least say giggity twice. I actually think he’ll say, “Giggity, giggity!”

Best Actress Winner

Jennifer Lawrence – Silver Linings Playbook 4/7
Emannuelle Riva – Amour 11/4
Jessica Chastain – Zero Dark Thirty 15/4
Naomi Watts – The Impossible 33/1
Quvenzhane Wallis – Beasts Of The Southern Wild 50/1

Yeti’s Pick: Jennifer Lawrence. I am a big fan of Jennifer Lawrence. I think she will not only win the award, but she will also give the night’s most memorable speech!

Upset Pick: Jessica Chastain. I’d like to get all “Zero Dark Flirty” with Ms. Chastain! I don’t think she wins, but if anyone else is going to win it will be her!

Best Actor Winner

Daniel Day-Lewis – Lincoln 1/50
Hugh Jackman – Les Miserables 10/1
Joaquin Phoenix – The Master 33/1
Denzel Washington – Flight 40/1
Bradley Cooper – Silver Linings Playbook 40/1

Yeti’s Pick: Daniel Day Lewis. This is my no-brainer pick of the night. This is how it goes in Hollywood. Daniel Day Lewis gets a part. He plays the part perfectly and then gets nominated for every acting award. Then he wins them all. He will win Best Actor.

Upset Pick: Hugh Jackman. If anyone can upset Day Lewis it is Jackman. The Academy LOVES Hugh Jackman! Hell, he has even hosted the Oscars before! I just think that Daniel Day Lewis is the superior actor and he was amazing in “Lincoln.”

YETI BET 2: You will not see Tommy Lee Jones smile on camera. 10/1

Golden Globes 2013

If you watched the Golden Globes, you saw Tommy Lee Jones at his best. Maybe he is just a crabby old man? Maybe he is just a miserable guy that happens to have the best job ever? I say we don’t see him smile at all. I actually think you have a better chance of him yelling at the cameraman to get off his lawn than you do seeing him smile!

Best Director Winner

Steven Spielberg (Lincoln) 1/4
Ang Lee (Life of Pi) 4/1
David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook) 14/1
Michael Haneke (Amour) 14/1
Benh Zeitlin (Beasts of the Southern Wild) 40/1

Yeti’s Pick: Steven Spielberg. You don’t pick against Spielberg. Ever. His people will find you and make you change your pick!

Upset Pick: Ben Affleck. Oh, you don’t see his name? That is really weird because he made the best film of the year. He should win this award, but it’s hard to win when you aren’t even nominated! I got ya back, Affleck! “How you like dem apples!”

YETI BET 3: Which actress will look “Yetiriffic!??!”

What is Yetiriffic, you ask? I mean, who will be the belle of the ball? Who will be the turning the most heads simply by looking super hot!?! My pick? Naomi Watts. I think she will look unbelievable and go home with the Yetiriffic award! I will let you know who looked the best in the next Mind Of The Yeti!

Best Picture Winner

Argo 1/7
Lincoln 5/1
The Silver Linings Playbook 25/1
Les Miserables 50/1
Life of Pi 50/1
Django Unchained 50/1
Zero Dark Thirty 66/1
Amour 100/1
Beasts of the Southern Wild 100/1

Yeti’s Pick: Argo. Yes, I am going with the favorite in Academy Awards odds, as I did in every other category! What can I say, I pick winners and usually the winners are favored to win!

Even though I love pie, I am not picking a movie about a guy on a boat with a tiger. That movie should have lasted five minutes and shows the tiger eating the guy. Movie over!

“Argo” is the winner and Affleck will be the first director to win best picture, but not even be nominated for best director since Bruce Beresford for “Driving Miss Daisy.”

Upset Pick: Django Unchained. I hope this wins, simply so I can watch Quentin Tarantino’s speech! It would be awesome!!!

Hopefully, the Academy Awards odds will be in your favor!
