That’s That Shit I Don’t Like: Lack of Focus

DeMarcus Cousins, NBA lack of focus

Let’s see here.

Two weeks ago, I wrote about something I do like: The NBA’s return. Last week, I didn’t write about anything. And I really have a lack of focus today.

No, your favorite angry blogger isn’t going soft. There’s just nothing to give a hearty rant on at the moment. That said, I’m gonna take a page from Fifth Period Lunch colleagues YetiVedder and TheWayIsHere and go three-dot style this week.

Dear Yahoo! Sports,

Your fantasy outage on Sunday morning was just ridiculous, but, since the leagues are free, I guess you get what you pay for. Your company apologized within 24 hours, so I figured this was a done deal. What I want to know is why am I still getting an explanatory email from you at 11:43 a.m. PST time Wednesday, three days after the fact?

I get it. You screwed up. You acknowledged it. Let it go already. Let’s keep it 100: Because Yahoo is a free service, the amount of people who will drop you for another company is infinitesimal.

My message to Yahoo: Stop worrying. It’s all good.

Dear NBA,

Kings C DeMarcus Cousins was suspended for two games for what was reportedly a heated exchange with San Antonio Spurs commentator Sean Elliott. Apparently, Elliott chastised Cousins on the air for something he overheard Cousins say about Spurs star Tim Duncan, probably the best power forward ever to play in the NBA.

Then, the report is Cousins got word of Elliott’s chatter and had a heated exchange with him after the game.

Obviously, I wasn’t there, but my thought is this: If this alleged confrontation never got physical, unless Cousins threatened to kill Elliott or something like that, why is the league suspending Cousins?

I know this sort of behavior shouldn’t be swept under the rug, but, last time I checked, Cousins and Elliott are grown men. If they want to have a verbal tiff, so be it. We as sports fans like that type of thing.

Look at what just went down this weekend in NASCAR. Crews throwing hands after the race? That makes for great entertainment. Look, I’m a Kings fan, so maybe I’m being biased, but Cousins’ suspension was unnecessary, in my opinion.

Dear College Football,

This may sound weird, but as much as I can’t stand all the attention SEC football teams get, I think it sucks that Alabama lost.

Hear me out.

I’m absolutely sick of the “East Coast Bias” teams like the Tide and their SEC rivals enjoy. I hear all this crap about how Oregon or other teams in the West wouldn’t be able to score on Alabama. I know the Pac-12 isn’t a conference loaded with stout defenses, but the Ducks score nearly 55 a game, tops in the nation. They are arguably the fastest team in college football.

his had the makings of a great title game if it played out that way. Unless Kansas State and Notre Dame both lose, we likely won’t see an Oregon-Alabama matchup. Oh, and what was all that shit about Alabama being able to beat an NFL team? Any fool who believed for a second that the Tide could roll a team like the Jaguars or Chiefs can take a cue from Ludacris and roll out!

Dear Gio Gonzalez,

My apologies to Washington Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez. While at work on Wednesday, when the announcement dropped that Tampa Bay Rays starter David Price won the American League Cy Young Award, I went around tooting my own horn, telling colleagues I was batting 1.000 (5-for-5) on calling MLB’s biggest awards.

That’s when the curveball, or should I say knuckleball, was tossed at me. Minutes after my braggadocio, I saw that MLB writers showed a lack of focus by letting knuckleball specialist R.A. Dickey won the 2012 NL Cy Young Award. Yeah, um, .833 is still solid.

Dear NHL,

Where are you? I was looking forward to a season of seeing my Pittsburgh Penguins dominate the ice. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have the potential to be the best 1-2 punch of all time!

Yeah, I put them up there like that.

No disrespect to other great 1-2s, including Colorado’s Peter Forsberg and Joe Sakic, Anaheim’s Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya, another Pittsburgh duo of Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr, and let’s definitely not forget Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier in both Edmonton and with the New York Rangers.

Crosby is the best overall player in the game today, hands down. Malkin is arguably in the top five. Keep this pair together, and who knows what these two can accomplish? Of course, none of this matters as long as the NHL is on ice.

I think that’s enough for this week. Hopefully I can find a single topic to rail on next week.

That was a good read !! My comment…the Cousins deal should of been a fine only !!! If u saw my post about Scoops (Scoot Howard Cooper) comment, it’s the SterNBA flexing it’s muscle because of what the Maloofs did to him in that arena deal. Blatant disrect !!! NOTE: Don’t mess w/ the Stern………Oh and Hammer……eff a NHL !!!! I love that the NHL highlights aren’t clogging my Sports Center viewing. That’s it.
